Square integration

A loyalty system for Square POS in the UK

Keep taking payments in Square and run your loyalty programme in Unity. Staff see open Square orders, apply the customer’s points as a discount, and you decide which product categories can be paid for with points.

How Unity works with Square

Square stays your till. Unity adds the loyalty programme, wallet cards and customer campaigns around it.

  1. Connect your Square account

An owner adds the Square access token in the Unity business dashboard. You can update or remove the connection at any time.

  2. Sync your catalogue categories

Unity reads the categories from your Square catalogue, so loyalty rules follow the same structure as your menu or product range.

  3. Set redemption rules per category

For each category, switch points redemption on or off and choose what percentage of the price can be paid with points.

  4. Apply points to a live order

At the till, staff open the customer in the Unity Staff app, pick the open Square order and apply the discount. It appears on the order as “Discount from Unity System”.

What you get on top of Square

Wallet loyalty cards

Customers join from a QR code and save a card to Apple Wallet or a compatible Android wallet app. The card shows their balance, tier and member QR code.

Cashback tiers

Customers earn points as cashback and move between spend-based tiers automatically. You set the sign-up bonus, redemption limits and points expiry.

Referrals for both sides

Members earn a reward when friends they invite make purchases, and the new member gets a welcome reward too.

Push, SMS and email campaigns

Send targeted offers to segments such as lapsed customers or a single tier. See customer notifications.

Geo push

Add a short message to each location. Apple Wallet can show it on the lock screen when a member is nearby.

Staff motivation

Each team member gets a personal QR code, so you can see who signs customers up and reward them for it.

Category rules protect your margins

Not every product carries the same margin. With category rules you might let points cover the full price of pastries and hot drinks, half the price of retail coffee beans, and nothing on gift cards or alcohol. Unity calculates the discount from the customer’s available balance and never applies more than they have.

Points convert at 10 points to £1. Every discount Unity applies through Square is recorded with the order, the customer and the staff member, so you can review redemptions later.

Square Loyalty or Unity?

Square sells its own loyalty add-on, Square Loyalty, which works natively inside Square POS. Unity is a separate loyalty platform that connects to Square and adds cashback tiers, two-sided referrals, staff incentives, audience segments and multi-channel campaigns. Which one fits depends on what you need your programme to do.

We compare the two approaches honestly, including where Square Loyalty is the simpler choice, in Unity vs Square Loyalty and in our guide for UK Square sellers choosing a loyalty app.

Not using Square?

You don’t need a POS integration to use Unity. With any other till, staff find the member by QR code, phone number or card number in the Unity Staff app on a phone or tablet, then add or redeem points in a few taps.

Square integration questions

Do I need to change my Square set-up?

No. You keep using Square for payments. Unity reads your open orders and catalogue categories and adds the loyalty discount to the order you choose.

Which Unity plan includes the Square integration?

The integration is available with Unity plans. Check the pricing page for plan features and ask us to show the Square workflow in a demo.

Can I stop points being used on certain products?

Yes. Category settings let you switch redemption off for a category or limit the percentage of the price that can be paid with points.
